Word For Mac Editing Addons

Hello, I tried to install the Mendeley word extension, and Mendeley says that the installation was successful. However, in Word, I do not see it under 'add-ins' ribbon. I do see that there are multiple add-in versions for Mendeley. I tried to attach an image to this message, but it would not attach. However, every time I try to uncheck and delete these, Word crashes. It also crashes every time I quit Word.

I've also gone through to see if I can delete these files manually via the path that it gives me (~/Users/Library.etc), but the files are not there. I have tried to install and uninstall Mendeley to no avail. I have Yosemite OS (haven't upgraded yet). Thank you, Elisa.

I am not looking for publisher's guidelines for editors. I am looking for specific help with using Word for Mac 2011 for editing and publishing books. For example, I need to create footnotes, but with my 2011 for Mac edition, the footnote function is not active, (and yes, I have the full version of Word). The Footnote function is there, under the View menu, right under Header and Footer, but it is light grey, not black, and does not activate!
All the other menu items activate. Anyone know if there is some esoteric way to activate it? And if I simply cannot access that Footnote function, any expert with this version have another suggestion for formatting footnotes at the bottom of the page, in separate sized text, and in a manner that will always keep it at the bottom of the page, even when further editing changes the text in the body? Also, any other expert advice for using 'Word for Mac 2011' to format Table of Contents, and other book formatting features.
