How To Force Photo Mac App To Rescan For New Fae Recognition

I just started to seriously use Google Photos a couple weeks ago after the announcement of better sharing etc coming. I had migrated over (downloading from another service and uploading to Google Photos) and after a few family albums were uploaded I had 8 or 9 faces in the 'People' section which I assigned names. Now a couple weeks later, it has dropped to 5 faces. If I look via the Android App, strangely the People box has 3 of the 4 boxes showing people but inside I now have 18 people identified and 6 that are not. Before I went on vacation this feature was working perfectly, but when visiting family in England and having since returned back home in the U.S.A.

As far as I am aware at present face recoginition is a one shot. If you delete the face recognition box, the only way to get it back is to manually draw it on each and every image! It's not good but worse is it appears that you can't rescan to add more faces after the initial work. I hope that's not true and there is a workaround.

It just isn't working like it used to. All that work I put into identifying people in my photos has been lost. It only appears to be working for some of the new photos I take, but not all - and it's not prompting me to identify anyone in the pictures I took before the vacation. I know it's a free service but man.that effort seems like a colossal waste of time and now I have to wonder if Google Photos will fail me in some other way in the future.

Lelukas 24/6/2017, 7:43 น. Hello, I have the same problem. Using a pixel,issue exists on my android app and across any other device. Disabled the face grouping, remanded and it worked up to the current photos in my library.

However, no new photos have been added to to persons album. Does it have to do with the new sharing features of Google photos? Eg I had my library set to share all photos of my kids with my mom automatically, this was great at first since it shared with her photos up until that point, but it is now useless since it is not sharing new photos since the face / people albums are not updating. It identified several faces. I upgraded to paid and started migrating all my pics and it lost all but one face. Now it won't identify any new faces, just the one.

It shows all sorts of other features I don't care about but the only reason I paid just stopped working. Shows same on two iPhones, a MacBook in chrome and safari and a windows 7 pc in Chrome. Obviously not cache. I installed for the first time on my second iPhone after it stopped working.
