Excel Mac 2011 Auto Adjust Cell Height For Wrapped Text

The drawback with Excel of course is that the whole row expands, and not just that cell. Adjusting the cell to wrap text doesn't cause the cell to automatically readjust its. Comms2's suggestion worked for me (have Microsoft for Max-2011). Re: How to Automatically resize rows to fit text by count » Sat Feb 18, 2012 12:59 pm The behaviour I get on windows 7 is the row resizes if it is set to default or optimal, but doesn't resize if the row height is set manually.

After trying 5 years I still can't get column width and height and wrapping to autoadjust right. I can't take it anymore. I learned this in 10 seconds in Excel in maybe 1993 and never had a problem with it again. I have a PhD in biology from an Ivy League university, know advanced multivariate statistics, have managed $5 million projects, have been using spreadsheets for 25 years AND AFTER 5 YEARS OF TRYING I STILL CAN'T FKIN GET COLUMNS TO WRAP TEXT AND AUTO ADJUST WIDTH AND HEIGHT IN OO. In these 20 years I have learned easily 50 entirely new software programs from mapping to image manipulation to audio and video editing so you sure as hell are not going to have the nerve to tell me I don't know how to learn new things.

Oh and I became fluent in a new foreign language. This is fcked up beyond words. I'm done with this bullshit. I STILL CAN'T GET COLUMNS TO WRAP TEXT AND AUTO ADJUST WIDTH AND HEIGHT IN OO Manual wrap text: Hit 'Ctrl-Enter' at end of line when edit content in the cell. Auto wrap: Use 'Cell Styles'. Adjust the 'Properties' on the 'Alignment' tab: check the option 'Wrap text automatically' and (it it necessary) the option 'Hyphenation active' Auto shrink text to the column width: Use 'Cell Styles'.

Adjust the 'Properties' on the 'Alignment' tab: check the option 'Shrink to fit cell size' Manual adjust of the column width: Format - Column - Width. Automatic adjust column width: Format - Column - Optimal Width. You can combine the 'Auto shrink' and 'Manual wrap text' functions. You can combine the 'Auto wrap text' and the 'Manual adjust of the column width' functions.

But you can not combine the 'auto shrink of the text' and the 'auto wrap of the text' functions, and can not combine the 'Auto shrink of the text' and the 'Automatic adjust column width' functions on one cell/column. What do you want to achieve really? I'm not a native speaker of English (American) and never saw an Ivy League Inst from inside.

Thus I may not be capable of finding the proper invectives. What an idiotic idea to let a missing feature no one actually needs finally decide about the quality or usability of a software. By the way: 1) Wrapping text is done inside cells and controlled by a cell format property. Automatic wrapping can easily be set for all the cells of a whole column. 2) OpenOffice an its predecessors for decades now were well capable of automatically adjusting row heights. It's not at all more difficult to do the equivalent for column widths. It may be a wise decision to not allow whole columns to jump out of view because in anotker column the font size was changed.

Excel Mac 2011 Auto Adjust Cell Height For Wrapped Text

What do you want to achieve really? Merely the eight most hated words in the OO universe, which are guaranteed to ignite a firestorm of defensiveness, accusation and arrogance. I know because I see it every time some innocent newcomer dares to use them there: to do it the way Excel does it. I don't have time go to into the details - but simply, autofit column width and height, with text-wrapping, that can somehow also be constrained, when I choose, by a final non-auto changing of a width here or a height there, without disrupting the rest of the autofitting, and the wrapping will still work fine without any text cut off and weird little 'more text' arrows. This is what Excel has been able to do effortlessly for decades and trust me I am no defender of MS to say the least.

It's the thing I've spent five years battling with in OO including parts or all of your instructions plus instructions and posts (from me and others) on other OO forums, you name it. Look at it this way - I even managed to figure out MS Word's outline/bullet numbering and automatic styles which must be the most nightmarish and sadistic office software features ever concocted, and those are vastly more complex than a simple column width and wrapping issue. It's the thing I've spent five years battling with in OO And why did not you already bought a package of MS Office? I switched back to Office 2003 just today - that's what inspired this - and the very first things I clicked on to get the column/row autofit + text wrapping right worked. No fiddling, no trial-and-error, even though I hadn't used MS Office for years. I just clicked on whatever seemed would do it, and it did it. Guess it's just an abyss of something OO is not designed to do (like autofill text in cells, which is another disaster; I've posted often on this, with many screenshots and repeatable tests.) Maybe in 6 months something horrible in MS my drive me back to OO but auto width/height and text autofill are daily issues for me so I must simply not be the target OO user which too bad because I vigorously support open source non-proprietary.
