This will vary based on your Internet connection and on the number of people trying to download the Apple announced macOS High Sierra in June, but it is just now coming out to your Mac.
We have a set of Samsung Chromebooks that will will not pick up an IP address from DHCP. We run DHCP on a Windows Server 2003 server. We have MAC filtering installed. The MAC address of the Chromebook shows up in the MacFilterCalloutInfoLog.txt file with the notation 'Allow'. The MAC address never does show up in the DhcpSRVLog-Wed.log file. We have all kinds of other wired and wireless devices that pick up IP addresses and work just fine. Anybody have any ideas on what is happening with these Chromebooks?
I have still not figured out what the problem is, but, yesterday the Chromebooks started working. Yesterday morning I did cycle power on a POE network switch that most of the wireless AP's in the building are connecting to, so that might possibly explain why they are working now, except that they are also working now in a part of the building that has AP's connected through another POE network switch. The only thing I can think to do now is go ahead and use the Chromebooks and if we have problems in the future see if bouncing that switch fixes the problems again.
If that happens I will try to get money to replace the switch. Thanks to all that responded. CloudMan wrote: hmm. interesting I have also Samsung Chromebook and have no issue to get IP for wireless or wired o/USB connection on the device. What security for the wireless connection are you using?
Wonder if you try to connect to different WiFi network if it works so you can rule out the wireless security setup. • Could be the WiFi type security and MAC filtering issue. The one I was working with yesterday started working this morning. I thought maybe they would work now so I brought a few more to my office to work on. None of those work.
We have a public library with open WiFi a couple of blocks away so I took one over there and it worked fine. Brought it back, it doesn't work here. Allen_Falcon wrote: @Wayne, It sounds like it relates to the security / access on your local WiFi. Do you have policies/access config setup via the ChromeOS Management Service in your Google Apps cPanel? Allen I agree. It does sound like that, but we have an open WiFi network with no security and I have looked at the WiFi controllers and do not see anything wrong there. I can see that the WiFi is seeing the Chromebook because the MAC address shows up.
The WiFi must be passing traffic because the MAC address also shows up as 'Allowed' in the MAC filter call out log. SamsungCharity wrote: @Wayne, I'd like to try and help. Are you using the 3G or WiFi only Chromebooks? Also, can you tell me a little bit more about your setup so I can investigate?
SamsungCharity The one I'm working with now has both 3G and WiFi. The 3G shows 'Verizon Wireless Disconnected / Not activated' I honestly don't know whether the problem is in the Chomebooks, our WiFi wireless, or in our DHCP. It really looks like DHCP except that everthing except for the Chromebooks is working okay. @Wayne, If you ordered Chromebooks through retail channels, then you do not have the ChromeOS Management Service (CMS). If you ordered from Google or an authorized Chromebook Reseller, CMS is part of your purchase.

With CMS, the Chromebooks are tied to your Google Apps for Business Account. As such, as Administrator for your domain, you can select 'manage this domain', and go into settings. You will see options for ChromeOS, through which you can push settings to the Chromebooks.
If you can, go in an see what, if any, settings exist. I have still not figured out what the problem is, but, yesterday the Chromebooks started working.
